First, I'd like to say that I believe Bo Pelini is a great coach anddefinitely the right man for the job at Nebraska.Some fans feel that his hot temper is not well suited for the Nebraska environment. These are the same fans who became so accustomed to a stoic Tom Osborne, who showed little or no expression during games. To these fans I say that every coach has his own style, his own way of getting through to the players. Bo's style is to show emotion and passion for the game.These qualities in particular are what defensive football is all about andthat's what makes Bo's defenses so great. I, for one, welcome the change to a coach who shows emotion and passion.
That particular feeling is exactly the reason why true fans come to the game I'll never forget that moment. It's these same emotions that make most great coaches a terrible interview. Theydon't want to say or do anything that may be helpful to their opponent.Coach Pelini takes this to the extreme. Bo conducts eachinterview as if he has a chip on his shoulder.
Like he's being interrogated and asked to rat on his friends. Like the reporters are international spies attempting to obtain top secret or classified information.His answers are short, repetitive and empty of substance. His favorite words in theEnglish language are "execution" and "consistency." They're his answer for everything. Loosely translated, these words in Pelini's world must mean, "None of your bleeping business!"As I said, a lot of coaches are a bad interview, but Pelini stands out to me because he appears to be particularly more and more irritated by each question. When asked this week if he planned any changes or alterations to the defensivegame planin order to contain Colt McCoy, Pelini responded, "No, it's about tackling and execution and doing our job." Members of the media, please do Bo, the fans and the general public a favor and just stop theinterviews. Let him do his talking where it matters and where he feels most comfortable. On the field..
